Our Mission
Light the World

Lighting the Way Forward with Innovation and Sustainability

The World is FAST becoming unsustainable. Precious resources are mined from our planet and they are becoming more and more scarce.

Global warming is real and threatens the very existence of Earth.

Many are trying to do their bit. This is ours….

A race is on….. always has been…. To make things cheaper.

Cheaper to the point where the prices are throwaway. Yes – cheaper to buy new than to repair. Mass market products are first in line. Build to the lowest price to win business.
But TOO CHEAP is EXPENSIVE. Why? Because they built without consideration for standards of build quality or reliability. Then, as we see again and again, are taken down and replaced with reliable counterparts. The installation, maintenance, re-purchasing and re-installation comes as a bitter lesson.

Worse, and all too often, these lamps don’t make it to recycling. They end up in landfill. And when they do, they require a lot of energy in this recycling process and this further contributes to carbon emissions and global warming.

Our Story

Driving Innovation, Committing to Sustainability, and Ensuring Quality

Our Mission

Embracing Integrity, Customer Focus, and Inclusivity at Our Core

WE ARE SustainabLED

Our MISSION: To design and manufacture lamps in a way that, WHEREVER POSSIBLE, enables the reusing of as many parts as possible and the remainder are recycled.

Our STARTING POINT: High Bay high power devices that need to be reliable because of installation and maintenance height challenges.

We want to offer best of breed in this category in terms of technical build quality, performance, lowest running costs and arguably most importantly, sustainability. Sustainability of the highest category – the reusability of parts together with the cost and the ease of effecting said reuse.

Why SLED?

Driving Innovation, Committing to Sustainability, and Ensuring Quality

The world is changing fast, and unfortunately, not always for the better. Our planet’s precious resources are being stripped away, often without a thought for the future. Global warming is no longer a distant threat; it's an undeniable reality that jeopardizes our very way of life. Many of us want to make a difference—to protect what we have, to reduce the waste that floods landfills, and to respect our environment. This is our mission at Sustainabled: to rethink how we produce and consume, to offer lighting solutions that are not only built to last but also built to care.

At Sustainabled, we believe that the cheapest option is often the most expensive one in the long run. We’ve all seen it—products made to a price point, not a quality standard, destined to fail and be replaced. This cycle of waste is costly, both financially and environmentally. Our high-bay lamps are designed to break this cycle. They’re not just reliable; they're made with a vision of sustainability at the core, where parts are reused and recycled, reducing the strain on our planet. We focus on delivering the best technical build quality, high performance, and sustainability—lamps designed for reusability, easy maintenance, and long-term value. The world doesn’t need more cheap fixes; it needs smart, lasting solutions. Sustainabled is lighting the way.

We invite you to join us in our quest to light up the world sustainably. Explore our products, read our stories, and become a part of the SLED community. Together, we can make a brighter, greener future.

Meet the Team

Our team is composed of industry experts dedicated to advancing sustainable lighting solutions.

Jerry Kochanski

Founder
From an early age, I was fascinated by electronics, driven by a curiosity to understand how things worked. This passion led to a career in broadcast video technology, where I built a trusted systems integration business, working with leading brands like Sony and Avid. I managed a dynamic team of 70+ professionals, delivering exceptional customer service and satisfaction—a priority I hold to this day.

After weathering the 2008 financial crisis, I pivoted to LED lighting, first managing a factory in China, then founding SustainabLED, where we create sustainable, repairable, high-efficiency lighting solutions. With a focus on innovation and customer value, I’m dedicated to lighting that stands the test of time and promotes a circular economy.

Life’s challenges have only fueled my commitment to problem-solving, sustainability, and building long-term relationships through quality and reliability.

John Birks

Technical Director
Like many people, I have had a lifetime of experience working in several related industries.
Firstly as an electrician working in the field installing lights and all manner of electrical installations both commercial and domestic. A licenced electrician.

Then in computing, working for IBM as a technical specialist.
Running my own company working in automation and building systems. Working with burglar alarms, fire alarms and automated control for building management.

Working with two partners, developing and installing mechanised and automated feeding systems for dairy farms in NSW and Victoria. Working with a wide variety of related electronic systems to deliver efficient management on farm. I loved it!

Developing a range of EXIT & Emergency lighting, along with a system to control those luminaires, and an Internet-connected interface to control and monitor everything.
These fields have given me a unique insight into the electronic challenges that exist in lighting today. No longer just a light switch and dimmer, but a wide variety of controls and interconnected electronics. All of it working in harmony and at high efficiency.
